POSITION TITLE: Accounting Clerk

Position Summary

This position performs the accounting and the general ledger record keeping related to the daily processing of cash receipts, payments, and refugee support along with other backup and support functions within the Finance department.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Maintain chart of accounts / organizational setup for all general ledger accounts in the accounting software.
  2. Deposit to the bank and journalize all agency cash receipts into the general ledger utilizing the accounting software. Monitor agency cash flow via banking software, initiate bank transfers and record any activity.
  3. Code, process and pay all vendor invoices and check requests for the agency.
  4. Process all Refugee department assistance requests. Maintain detailed client activity record of all available/spend/billed/received dollars including a separate record file for each client detailing remaining available funds.
  5. Serve as a backup on all agency payrolls along with interpretation and senior volunteer contractor payments.
  6. Manage the recording of benefits, including Enrollments/Terminations/Changes and coordinate those changes with the Payroll Specialist.
  7. Process month-end activities including bank reconciliations, inventory reconciliations and the updating of various spreadsheets.
  8. Work directly with CFO/Accountant on analyzing the general ledger and preparation of accounting work papers.
  9. Other duties as assigned at year-end, audit periods, etc.

Qualifications and Skills Requirements:

  • Demonstrated accounting knowledge with work related experience or technical skills.
  • Very high attention to detail.
  • Experience with accounting software – Sage preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel spreadsheet and database management.

Work Environment:

Typical office environment, with minimal exposure to excessive noise or adverse environmental issues.
