Families are vulnerable. Almost 1 in 3 children are growing up in a one-person home. Many are looking for adult guidance and life meaning. Our Foster Grandparents help fill this void through mentoring, tutoring and nurturing.
The Foster Grandparent Program is an AmeriCorps Seniors Program which Catholic Charities Southwestern Ohio has administered in Hamilton County since 1965. Services are now provided in Hamilton and Butler County since 2022. We place older adult volunteers in schools and early childhood centers to serve children needing extra help.
To many of our volunteers, it is one of the most satisfying things in life that they will ever do. To the children they mentor, the impact is priceless and long-lasting.
There is stipend for Foster Grandparents:
- 40 hours of paid orientation
- Modest stipend
- Mileage reimbursement or bus fare reimbursement
- Paid personal time
- Supplemental insurance
- Volunteer recognition events
- Paid training
In order to become a Foster Grandparent, you must be 55 or older and meet income requirements (single person’s income can’t be more than $27,180 and two person income can’t be more than $36,620); income earned will not impact your eligibility for SSI, SSDI, housing or other programs.
