Non-Medical Companionship Services

The Senior Companion Program is a program of AmeriCorps Seniors that Catholic Charities has administered since 1968. It meets the critical needs of the community while providing high-quality experiences which will enrich the lives of the volunteers and their clients. For example: a client was quoted as saying, “My Senior Companion has been more like family to me, I do not know what I would do without her”.

The Senior Companions in the program serve older adults in the community with hopes of the client remaining independent in their homes. The Senior Companions also serve older adults in independent living housing, veterans, developmentally disabled adults as well as providing respite for caregivers. We pair Senior Companions with clients by providing non-medical services such as: socialization, phone reassurance, medication reminders, assistance with daily activities, respite and transportation. (Transportation is available at the volunteer’s and the program’s discretion).  Volunteers are on assignment Monday through Friday 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM.  No weekends, holidays or overnights.
