Foster Grandparents

Families are vulnerable. Almost 1 in 3 children are growing up in a one person home. Youth are looking for adult guidance and life meaning. Our Foster Grandparents help fill this void through mentoring, tutoring and nurturing.

The Foster Grandparent program is a Senior Corps program which Catholic Charities Southwestern Ohio has administered in Cincinnati since 1965. We place more than 80 senior volunteers a year into 38 schools, hospitals, early childhood centers and sheltered workshops to serve disadvantaged children and youth.

To many of our volunteers, it is one of the most satisfying things in life that they will ever do. To the kids they mentor, the impact is priceless and long-lasting.

There is stipend for Foster Grandparents:

  • 40 hours of paid orientation
  • A stipend of $3.00/hour
  • Mileage reimbursement or bus-fare reimbursement
  • Paid leave time
  • Supplemental insurance
  • Volunteer recognition events
  • Paid in-service training

In order to become a Foster Grandparent, you must be 55 or older and meet income requirements; income earned will not impact your eligibility for SSI, SSDI, housing or other programs.
