The Senior Companion program is a Senior Corps program which Catholic Charities has administered since 1968. It meets the critical needs of the community while providing high quality experience that will enrich the lives of the volunteers.
The program is a great way for seniors to have an impact on the lives of other seniors. The seniors in the program serve older adults living independently in the community with the goal of preserving independence. The senior volunteers also serve seniors in independent living facilities, as well as caregivers and developmentally disabled adults. The benefit to both companion and volunteer is beyond measure.
We pair more than 60 senior volunteers a year with other seniors needing socialization, assistance with daily activities, respite and transportation.
There is stipend for Senior Companions:
- 40 hours of paid orientation
- A stipend of $3.00/hour
- Mileage and/or bus-fare reimbursement
- Paid leave time
- Supplementary insurance
- Paid in-service training
- Volunteer recognition events
In order to become a Senior Companion, you must be 55 or older and meet income requirements; income earned will not impact your eligibility for SSI, SSDI, housing or other programs. Please consider becoming a Senior Companion volunteer. Contact the Senior Companion Coordinator at (513) 672-3718.
