1 in 3 children are growing up in a one-parent home, and many are looking for adult guidance, tutoring, and nurturing. Foster Grandparents help fill these voids by working with children in early childhood centers and schools. The Foster Grandparent Program is an AmeriCorps Seniors Program that Catholic Charities Southwestern Ohio has administered in Hamilton County since 1968. For many of our volunteers, it is one of the most satisfying and meaningful things they do. For the children they mentor, the impact lasts a lifetime.
Provide tutoring and academic support to help children succeed in school.
Offer emotional support and mentorship to children facing social, emotional, or developmental challenges.
To become a Foster Grandparent, you must be 55 or older and meet income requirements:
You must also pass all required background checks.
A single person’s income can’t be more than $31,920.
A two-person income can’t be more than $43,280.
Foster Grandparents typically serve a minimum of 15 hours per week, with a minimum of 260 hours per year. Volunteers are on assignment Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. No weekends, holidays or overnights.
Yes, Foster Grandparents receive a modest tax-free stipend, as well as 40 hours of paid orientation, ongoing training, paid personal time, supplemental insurance, and 12 paid holidays.
Foster Grandparents receive mileage reimbursement or bus fare reimbursement.
Income earned will not impact your eligibility for SSI, SSDI, housing or other programs.
