Workforce Development Adult ESOL Teacher

POSITION TITLE: Workforce Development Adult ESOL Teacher (Full-Time)

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Director, Educational Services

SUPERVISORY: Mentor part-time teachers

WORK HOURS: Full-time; includes days, evenings, and occasional weekends

LOCATION: Fairfield/Hamilton and MidPointe; community and employer sites as needed

Position Summary

The Workforce Development ESOL Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality English language instruction while leading workforce-aligned programming that supports student employment, job advancement, and self-sufficiency. This role integrates ESOL instruction with contextualized workforce curriculum, employer partnerships, and career pathway development.

Essential Job Functions: 

The duties of the Workforce Development ESOL Teacher:

  1. Deliver ESOL instruction using adult education best practices and workforce-contextualized strategies.
  2. Teach across in-person, hybrid, virtual, and asynchronous formats.
  3. Administer assessments and track student progress and outcomes.
  4. Develop and implement workforce courses including OSHA Prep, Digital Literacy, and Transition to College/Career.
  5. Design contextualized curriculum aligned to employer and industry needs.
  6. Build partnerships with employers and support workforce contracts.
  7. Expand Adult ESOL programming in Fairfield/Hamilton and surrounding communities.
  8. Maintain accurate attendance, assessment, and reporting documentation.
  9. Use data to improve retention, persistence, and level gains.
  10. Collaborate with staff on recruitment, orientation, and student support services.
  11. Support, train and mentor part time teachers and volunteers.
  12. Participate in professional development and program improvement efforts.

  • None

Qualifications and Skill Requirements:  

  1. Bachelor’s degree in TESOL, ESL, Adult Education, or related field required; master’s preferred.
  2. Minimum 1–2 years of adult ESOL teaching experience.
  3. Experience with workforce or contextualized instruction preferred.
  4. Strong understanding of language acquisition and adult learning theory.
  5. Experience with curriculum development and instructional technology.
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and LMS platforms (Canvas preferred).
  7. Ability to work with diverse and immigrant populations.
  8. Strong communication and partnership-building skills.

Work Environment:

Typical office and classroom environment. This may include community and employer sites. They will be heated and air conditioned. Temperature 68 to 80 degrees F. Ambient noise, low, not requiring hearing protection.  No other personal safety equipment required.

Must be able to meet the following physical requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Use hands to manipulate, handle, feel, and control items or equipment;
  • Talk to other employees/clients and hear them;
  • See and be able to read, write, and interpret written documents;
  • Occasionally lift and move objects weighing up to 15 pounds.
